THE MAN BEHIND THE SPONSORS
From a little shed in 1984 to the thriving club we’re proud of today, Daryl O’Reilly has spent 25 years helping build the Doggies on and off the field. As the driving force behind our sponsorships, he’s passionate about creating strong local partnerships that support our players, families and future. A true club man — always backing the Doggies, right in front of the kennel. 🐶
What first attracted you to be part of Centrals Trinity Beach Bulldogs?
I was from an AFL background in Melbourne playing and coaching in various suburbs. The club had nothing in 1984 and I thought I would be a good mix for the new committee. The club needed volunteers and I was ready to roll up my sleeves and help them.
What’s your favourite memory from your time at the club so far?
My favourite memory was the 1992 Grand Final. Peter Ivanoff was instrumental as an inspiring coach and leader.
How have you seen the club grow over the years? How do you see it evolving in years to come?
From a little shed in 1984 to a prosperous social club of thousands of members and hundreds of families playing different sports. I see the future with further expansions of changing rooms, entertainment area and conference centre . Once the cricket club leave I would be building a block of apartments to cement the future of our great club forever.
What does being part of the Bulldogs community mean to you personally?
We have had many highs and lows over the past 4 decades but I feel very proud when I walk into our club knowing that I have spent 25 years in various roles helping this club become what it is today.
What made you want to take on helping with club sponsorship?
Club sponsorship is very important for every community club.
I have had a lot of experience in dealing with prospective sponsors over the years so I threw my hat into the ring again.
Why is local business support so important to a grassroots club like Centrals?
It is important for all local sporting communities to engage in local business support.
Many businesses want to get involved and support the local sporting club. They want their children involved in sporting activities and making good friends.
What’s been the most rewarding part of your role?
The most rewarding part of this job is creating a package for the sponsor where it is a win win for both of us.
There are setbacks and a few complaints but overall having a beer or coffee with a new sponsor is most rewarding.
What challenges come with sponsorship, and how do you overcome them?
Creating the right package for a new sponsor is challenging – they are after value for money, promotion and maximum exposure.
At times we adjust our package to further suit the needs of a sponsor. Creating work and business for them is always challenging depending on their business.
What would you say to businesses considering becoming a Bulldogs sponsor?
Our club stands by what we offer to sponsors and we are always prepared to throw in extras. We endeavour at all times to give maximum exposure for their investment.
